Welcome to the Knights of Columbus - St. Francis the Poverello Council No. 8222 at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. This website is designed to offer students, faculty, staff, administration, parents, alumni, and friends of Saint Francis University a means to keep up with the progress and works of our college council.
The mission of the Knights of Columbus College Council Program is to promote the moral, intellectual and spiritual development of the future leaders of civil society, the Order, and the Church through witness to the Gospel and dedication to the principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. Originally founded in 1982, Council #8222 enjoyed ten years of uninterupted progress until reaching a sudden collapse in 1992. Twenty years later, in the Fall semester of 2012, 32 men from Saint Francis University--comprised of students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and parents--came together to re-establish the council and a renewed commitment to lay-ecclesial ministry to the campus and the surrounding communities. Poverello, meaning "little poor one", was a nick-name given to St. Francis of Assisi (our University's patron saint) because of his embracing of a humble and simple life of poverty. It is in choosing this name for our council that we strive to serve and lead humbly, as Francis did in the footsteps of Christ.
We are overjoyed for this opportunity to provide leadership in service and ask that you keep our resurrected council in your prayers. Through the power of your prayers and support we will continue to carry out the will of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the glory and honor of God the Father, and always in most solemn reverence of our Lady, our Holy Queen -- whom He loved.
