The Discipline of being a Catholic Gentleman

The term Catholic gentleman is used quite frequently within the Knights of Columbus and we here at Saint Francis University attempt to explore the deeper meanings, contexts, and benefits of maintaining this title and discipline.

On this page, the SFU Knights are happy to share various resources that will assist all men, Catholic or non-Catholic, in understanding the richness and dignity of living as a Catholic gentleman.

Enjoy the links below to discover elements of gentlemanly discipline and style.

  • The Catholic Gentleman - More than ever, the Church needs men. Sadly, many Catholic men have believed the lie that being holy isn’t manly, and that the faith is boring. They leave religion to women and children and simply tune out. But holiness is for men. There is nothing more difficult, rewarding, or manly than becoming a saint. The spiritual life is full of combat, struggle, hardship, and adventure. It requires blood, sweat, tears, perseverance, and courage. It isn’t for the faint of heart. Catholic men are called to leave mediocrity behind and to strive for greatness. The Catholic Gentleman exists to inspire men to holiness—to love God, to serve others, and to deny self. And to do it all with class and classic manly flair.
  • Those Catholic Men - An online community of Catholic Men, for Catholic Men.
  • The New Emangelization - The overall goal of the New Emangelization Project is simple:  “To Draw Catholic Men to Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church.” The New Emangelization Project is an effort to help build new ardor, expressions and methods for the evangelization of Catholic men. To do this, the New Emangelization project will engage top leaders in the Catholic Church, both in the clergy and the laity about men’s evangelization in the Catholic Church.
  • Roman Catholic Man - RomanCatholicMan.com is a website with everything needed to inspire and train men who seek the Lord with all their heart, mind, soul and strength. Launched on Ash Wednesday 2015, this is a site for Roman Catholic Men by Roman Catholic Men. It is designed to aid those of us in the trenches of the Church Militant to understand and train for our role in the mission of combating evil and rescuing the souls of our loved ones who have lost the precious gift of faith.
  • Godly Gentlemen - Godly gentleman features articles on helping men become better. Better leaders, better students, better husbands, better fathers, better sons, and just generally better. We focus heavily on the Bible, and the ideals set forth with the pages of that great book. We also borrow heavily from leaders, heroes, and other great men both past and present to learn from their examples. We discuss manly motivations, manly skills, manly ideals, and manliness in general.
  • The Catholic Dormitory - was created in the year of our Lord 2013, with the intent of helping humanity fall in love with the Bride of Christ, His Church, and not only dream of this infinite beauty but pursue her against all odds. Man must fall in love with the eloquence of Holy Mother Church, his loyalty must rest in the pew and extend to the partaking of the earthly pleasure of the pipe, the pint: song, adventure, the arts; and in every thought, word, deed and omission the Catholic man must pick up his cross and walk. He must die to himself and live for the Love, as Love, for Truth, as Truth, for Christ, as Christ. The Catholic Dormitory is in a sense the online dormitory geared toward all Catholics extending mainly to young adults that are either attending Catholic Universities or secular ones or perhaps not even attending at the moment. The website has been divided into three main sections, “The Pint, The Pipe, The Cross,” a division inspired by the words of G.K. Chesterton.
  • Bearded Gospel Men - BGM is a celebration of facial fair, the gospel, and robust masculinity.  We do not believe that God commands all men everywhere to grow their beards, nor do we believe that a beard makes one a man.  Masculinity is about growing in love, grace, self-sacrifice and service.  The beard is simply a beautiful bonus!
  • Classic Shaving - was established in response to the current worldwide rediscovery of and increased interest in traditional wet shaving methods and products.  Men the world over are searching for alternatives to the mass produced, commercially available, drugstore quality products that until now have been the only things available. The reasons why are as diverse as the personalities of the men, but one thing is very clear - Many are dissatisfied and want better.
  • Pipes and Cigars - In 1999, we had the idea that with brick and mortar pipe and cigar shops around the country closing their doors right and left, there was a need for a place that disenfranchised enthusiasts could go where they would receive the service and the feel of a hometown store. With that idea in mind, PipesandCigars.com was born.
  • The Gentleman's Gazette - Founded in 2010, the Gentleman’s Gazette was established to provide in-depth coverage of classic men’s style and to show people what quality really means. Now an award winning online magazine, we seek to engage likeminded clothing enthusiasts with unique content that promotes the mutual values of craftsmanship, tradition, and quality. In addition, the Gentleman’s Gazette has branched into lifestyle categories that support the belief that living stylishly is not the only component of savoir vivre. Due to the demand of our readers, we added an online shop in November 2013.
